Accra Technical University has recorded a significant rise in resit cases for the 2025 academic year. Based on my personal analysis of student performance across several departments, an estimated 27% of the total student population sat for at least one resit examination this year.

For the purpose of analysis, I worked with an estimated 8,200 active students across various levels.

Overall Breakdown
- 27% of 8,200 students = 2,214 students had resits this year.
Detailed Breakdown (Percentages + Actual Numbers)
- 14% (1,148 students) wrote one resit paper
- 9% (738 students) wrote two resit papers
- 4% (328 students) wrote three or more resit papers
Gender Breakdown
Out of the 2,214 students who had resits:
Male Students
- 60% of resit students = 1,328 males
- One resit: 690
- Two resits: 420
- Three or more: 218
Female Students
- 40% of resit students = 886 females
- One resit: 458
- Two resits: 318
- Three or more: 110
These figures, although not official, reflect the academic challenges many students encountered during the year.
In my recommendations, I emphasized that ATU should enhance academic support structures, particularly:
- Strengthening tutorial sessions at the beginning and end of every semester
- Providing accessible lecture materials and recorded lessons
- Encouraging peer-learning groups
- Improving lecturer-student consultation hours
- Introducing a mid-semester academic review to assist struggling students early
I also suggested that students themselves adopt stronger study habits, attend lectures regularly, and seek help before exams draw near.
If these interventions are implemented, I believe the number of resit cases can significantly reduce in the next academic year.
