Accra, Ghana — The auditorium of Accra Technical University erupted in thunderous applause as Andrew Kwasi Kattah, representing the University of Ghana, was crowned the Public Speaking Champion at the Ghana Universities Debate Championship (GUDC) 2025.
Known for his commanding presence, eloquence, and depth of thought, Andrew delivered a series of powerful speeches that captivated both judges and audiences throughout the competition. His victory marks a remarkable milestone in a debating journey built on resilience, passion, and years of consistent effort.
Sharing his motivation after his win, Andrew reflected on the spirit that drives his craft:
“To win. I think the sum of life is in engaging in challenges and overcoming them. So I like to think I thrive at overcoming them.”

He further expressed his excitement and gratitude after receiving the coveted trophy, saying:
“I’m really excited about winning this trophy. It means a lot to me, my union, and my friends. I have been trying for the past three years, and I guess consistency paid off. It paid off because it’s a groundwork.”
Andrew currently serves as the President of the University of Ghana Debate Society, where he continues to mentor and inspire the next generation of debaters. Beyond the debate arena, he is a student of Classics and Religion at the University of Ghana and a proud alumnus of Presbyterian Boys’ Secondary School (PRESEC), Legon.
