From the information and resources I have gathered, Accra Technical University (ATU) has an official grading system that is used to assess the academic performance of students each semester. The system is based on students’ scores in tests, assignments, exams, and other continuous assessments.

ATU Grading System

At ATU, students’ percentage scores are converted into letter grades and grade points. These grade points are used to calculate a student’s performance.

  • A+ (85–100%) – Outstanding (5.00)
  • A (80–84%) – Excellent (4.50)
  • B+ (75–79%) – Very Good (4.00)
  • B (70–74%) – Good (3.50)
  • C+ (65–69%) – Above Average (3.00)
  • C (60–64%) – Average (2.50)
  • D+ (55–59%) – Pass (2.00)
  • D (50–54%) – Weak Pass (1.50)
  • F (Below 50%) – Fail (0.00)

How GPA is Calculated

From what I gathered, the Grade Point Average (GPA) is calculated by dividing the total grade points a student earns by the total credit hours of the courses taken in a semester. This GPA shows how well a student performed during that period.

Degree Classification

The final degree of a student is based on the Cumulative Grade Point Average (CGPA). This is the average of all the GPAs a student earns throughout their academic years.

At Accra Technical University, the classifications are generally grouped as:

  • First Class (Honours) – CGPA 4.00 and above
  • Second Class Upper (Honours) – CGPA 3.00 – 3.99
  • Second Class Lower (Honours) – CGPA 2.00 – 2.99
  • Pass – CGPA 1.50 – 1.99
  • Fail – CGPA Below 1.50

Based on the resources I reviewed, this system helps the university maintain fairness and high academic standards while measuring students’ progress throughout their studies.

As students of Accra Technical University, it is important for us to understand how this grading system works so we can plan our studies well and aim for better academic results.
