ATU SRC Election Dispute Moves Toward Out-of-Court Settlement with High Hopes for Resolution

In a significant turn of events at Accra Technical University (ATU), an out-of-court settlement is now being pursued in the SRC election dispute. The case, which had stalled the SRC handing-over ceremony, was initiated by Opoku Y. Sarpong, an SRC Finance Officer aspirant, who filed a lawsuit against Electoral Commission (EC) Chair, Haruna Sulleman, and current SRC President, Dawson Samuel. Alleging election fraud and over-voting, Sarpong’s case has put a pause on the leadership transition, sparking heightened attention across campus.

A court hearing on the matter recently allowed both parties the option to settle out of court, offering a potential end to the legal impasse. The judge granted them until Monday to reach an agreement, a move that underscores the likelihood of a swift resolution. Should the parties reach a mutual understanding, the SRC handing-over ceremony would proceed, facilitating a seamless transition and enabling the swearing-in of the newly elected SRC executives.
