AGORMENYA, Ghana — As Ghana commemorates the anniversary of the historic June 4th Uprising, Honourable Augustus Goosie Obuadum Tanoh, a founding member of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) and current presidential adviser on the 24-hour economy, has called for deep reforms in governance and party accountability.

Speaking during a gathering at Agormenya, Honourable Tanoh cautioned against repeating the governance failures seen under the current New Patriotic Party (NPP) administration.

“The mistakes made by the NPP government—such as misuse of power, corruption, and ignoring the people—must not be repeated,” he said.

Tanoh noted that the recent rejection of the NPP at the polls was a signal from Ghanaians that citizens would no longer tolerate leaders who abuse power or misappropriate public resources.

He urged the NDC to prioritize grassroots empowerment and transparency.

“The NDC must not operate like a top-down political machine,” he warned. “It must empower its grassroots and be more accountable to its members.”

Tanoh further advocated for a national dialogue aimed at shaping a new constitutional and ideological path for the party and the nation at large. He criticized the misuse of public funds, stressing that they should not be diverted to finance political campaigns through inflated contracts.

“Public funds must be used for development—not to fund political campaigns,” he emphasized.

Reflecting on the meaning of June 4, Tanoh said the uprising was not just a military event but a demand by the people for justice, fairness, and accountability in public life.

“When political leaders fail to respect the social contract and ignore the rule of law, they will face the consequences from the people,” he added.

Chris Owusu Harrison, a governance advocate, expressed his support for Tanoh’s message.

“As someone who believes in justice, democracy, and transparency, I fully support Honourable Goosie Tanoh‘s message,” he stated. “Under his guidance, the 24-hour economy is more than just a policy. It is a plan to restore discipline, fairness, and lawful governance in our country.”

The call comes at a time when many Ghanaians are reflecting on the state of leadership and the relevance of the values that sparked the June 4th Uprising over four decades ago.
