Candidate for Member of Parliament (MP) for the Ablekuma North Constituency in the 2026 Youth Parliament Ghana elections, Chris Owusu Harrison, has called on the Electoral Commission of Youth Parliament Ghana to provide clarity over his exclusion from the electoral system.

In a statement, Harrison said he had completed the required electoral procedures but discovered on Election Day that his name or candidate details had not been captured on the voting platform.
He questioned the circumstances surrounding the omission, arguing that electoral processes should be guided by principles of fairness, transparency, accountability and due process.
Harrison referenced democratic principles contained in Ghana’s 1992 Constitution, particularly Articles 45, 46 and 296, while acknowledging that the Youth Parliament Ghana election is not a public election conducted under Article 45 of the Constitution.
According to him, these constitutional principles nevertheless provide an important benchmark for how electoral bodies should exercise discretion and conduct electoral processes.
He further argued that candidates should be given an opportunity to resolve any discrepancies with their candidature before Election Day, rather than discovering such issues when voting has already begun.
Harrison has therefore called on the Youth Parliament Ghana Electoral Commission to publicly explain the circumstances that led to his exclusion from the voting system.
He said that if the situation resulted from an administrative or technical error, appropriate corrective action should be taken. However, if there was a legitimate electoral or constitutional basis for the decision, he believes that basis should be clearly communicated.
“This is not simply about one candidate. It is about the credibility of Youth Parliament Ghana and the democratic principles it represents,” Harrison stated.
He added that the credibility of an election should not be measured solely by whether voting takes place, but also by whether rules are applied fairly, candidates are treated equally, and participants can trust the process.
Harrison is contesting for the position of MP for Ablekuma North Constituency in the 2026 Youth Parliament Ghana elections.
