Accra – University of Ghana – The Electoral Commission of the University of Ghana Student Representative Council (UGSRC) has released the provisional results for the 2025 SRC Elections, with two candidates making an early lead but failing to secure an outright majority.

According to the figures announced, Larbi Ofori Richmond and Gyampo Ayeh Ebenezer are in the lead, polling 11,085 votes out of 24,265 total valid votes cast, representing 45.7%. The results, however, did not cross the 50% plus one threshold required for an outright win.
The Electoral Commission has therefore declared that the elections will proceed to a runoff on Friday, August 22, 2025, for three key portfolios:
- President & Vice President
- General Secretary
- Treasurer
This decision comes after a highly competitive election that saw record voter turnout among students, reflecting renewed enthusiasm for student leadership on Legon campus.
Speaking after the provisional declaration, the EC Chairperson assured students of a transparent, credible, and peaceful runoff.
“The will of the students must be respected. We encourage all students to once again come out in their numbers on Friday, August 22, to decide who leads the UGSRC into the Union Building,” the Chairperson stated.
With the race still wide open, the spotlight now turns to the campaign strategies of the top candidates and how they will mobilize support in the final days before the runoff. The outcome will determine who takes over the leadership of Africa’s premier university’s student body.
