The University of Professional Studies, Accra (UPSA) has uncovered a results manipulation scheme involving 178 students, with more than 500 academic results altered in the university’s system.

The Vice Chancellor, Prof Kwaku Mensah Mawutor, disclosed this during the university’s 18th Congregation, describing the incident as serious and unfortunate.
According to him, some students and other individuals breached the university’s system and changed students’ academic results.
Prof Mawutor said investigations identified those involved and established that more than 500 results had been altered by the 178 students.
He said some students admitted paying individuals to change their results, while others confessed to collecting money from colleagues to facilitate the manipulation.
The Vice Chancellor described the practice as unacceptable, particularly at an institution such as UPSA.
Some of the students implicated in the scheme were scheduled to graduate at the 18th Congregation. However, the university has withheld their graduation indefinitely while investigations and disciplinary processes continue.
Prof Mawutor said the incident was not the first case of its kind at the university, but noted that the scale of the latest case was significant.
He commended the university’s Information Systems and Technology Directorate (ISTD) and the investigative committee for uncovering the manipulation and identifying those involved.
