The launch is scheduled for Thursday, August 27, 2026, at 10:00 a.m. at the ATU Main Auditorium.

The programme has been described by the institutions as the first of its kind in Africa and is designed to provide an advanced academic pathway for students and professionals interested in hair, scalp and beauty wellness.
According to ATU, the HND programme was developed following research and consultations involving the university, Abrantie College and industry experts. It seeks to address a long-standing gap in the academic progression of cosmetology students, particularly those seeking to advance beyond vocational qualifications.
The programme falls under Level 5 of the eight-level National TVET Qualifications Framework and will provide specialised training in areas related to hair and scalp health.
ATU Vice-Chancellor, Prof. Amevi Acakpovi, has emphasised the importance of maintaining high academic standards for the programme. The university has indicated that admission will be controlled to ensure that only qualified applicants are admitted.
Applicants who do not immediately meet the HND entry requirements may have the opportunity to undertake a Pre-HND programme at Abrantie College to prepare them for further study.
The partnership also has longer-term ambitions. ATU says plans are underway to develop a Bachelor of Technology (BTech) programme before the pioneer HND students complete their studies. This could provide successful students with a direct progression route to bachelor’s-level education.
The collaboration between ATU and Abrantie College dates back to a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) signed on September 12, 2024, aimed at strengthening education and professional training in fashion, cosmetology and related fields.
The upcoming launch is therefore expected to mark an important development in Ghana’s technical and vocational education sector, particularly for students and professionals seeking formal higher education in hair and scalp health.
