Profile of Haruna Sulleman: ATU's new Electoral Commissioner

Haruna Sulleman, recently appointed as the Electoral Commissioner of Accra (), is a prominent figure known for his exceptional leadership and dedication. His journey began at Aboadze Islamic Junior High School in the Western Region, where he was the first Senior Boys’ Prefect. He completed his basic education in 2016 after transferring to Oda Seventh Day Adventist Junior High School.

Sulleman’s academic and leadership path continued at Abetifi Technical Institute, where he held several influential roles, including Senior Boys’ Prefect, President of the Muslim Students Association, and Public Relations Officer for the Intellectual Club. These experiences sharpened his organizational and communication skills.

Following his secondary education in 2019, Haruna worked as the General Manager at his family’s bakery, enhancing his managerial capabilities before furthering his studies. In 2020, he joined (ATU) to pursue a Higher National Diploma (HND) in Electrical and Electronics Engineering. At ATU, he became a Council Member of the Technical Students Association of Ghana (TUSAG) and President of the Electrical and Electronics Engineering Department. His innovative spirit was demonstrated through a project where he led a team in designing a pure sine wave inverter for local communities.

In 2023, Haruna graduated with a Second-Class Upper and continued his education at ATU, pursuing a Bachelor of Technology in Electrical and Electronics Engineering with a focus on Power and Automation. His leadership role expanded as he was appointed the SRC Chief of Staff.

On July 14, 2024, Haruna Sulleman was elected as the Electoral Commissioner of ATU, receiving 22 out of 23 votes in a secret ballot. His strong performance during the vetting process and reputation for competence garnered widespread support. Since his appointment, Suleman has been recognized for organizing a smooth and peaceful election at the university, setting a high standard for future electoral processes.
