Technical University Senior Administrators in Ghana declare nationwide strike over unpaid allowances

The Technical Senior Administrators Association of Ghana () has announced a nationwide strike starting tomorrow, 27th September 2024, in protest of the government’s failure to pay agreed allowances and honour the terms of the Collective Bargaining Agreement (CBA).

TUSAAG’s action comes after previous warnings to the government, which failed to implement revised allowances for senior members of public , despite agreements made in July 2024 and directives from the Ministry of Finance in May 2024.

In a statement, TUSAAG expressed frustration, stating, “The continued inaction constitutes a clear violation of rights and demonstrates an unacceptable lack of attention for the Association.” The association also accused the government of discriminatory practices, claiming that allowances paid to other unions have been denied to TUSAAG members.

As a result, TUSAAG is demanding the immediate payment of allowances for vehicle maintenance, off-campus housing, fuel, utilities, and sanitation/security services. They are also calling for formal recognition of their grievances and a commitment to fully uphold the CBA.

“TUSAAG will withdraw all services across all technical universities in Ghana until our demands are met,” the association declared, stressing that they have exhausted all avenues for further negotiations.

This strike is expected to disrupt activities at technical universities nationwide until a resolution is reached.

The strike notice was signed by TUSAAG’s National President, Mr Kojo Ennin Oppan, and General Secretary, Ms Elizabeth Nda Amiherere, with copies sent to the Ministers of Education, Finance, and Employment and Labour Relations.
